Description

Georgia, located in the South Caucasus, borders Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia, and Turkey. Despite its small area, the country features diverse climates and landscapes. Within an hour’s drive, you can cross from stone deserts to high-altitude alpine forests.
Mount Kazbek is a dormant volcano, known as Mkinvartsveri in Georgian, meaning “ice-covered peak.” The altitude has been officially measured at 5054 m since 2019. It is Georgia’s third highest and the Caucasus’ seventh highest mountain, accessible via a military road.

Event Timelines

Day 1 (July 26). Arrival in Tbilisi - Stepantsminda

Arrive in Tbilisi and travel to Stepantsminda, where you’ll enjoy a refreshing drink by the river before settling into your hotel for rest, preparing for over 1,000 m of ascent the next day.

Day 2 (July 27). Stepantsminda - Gergeti Chapel - Hike to Camp 1

Depart for Camp 1. After an early start, take a jeep to Gergeti Chapel (conditions permitting) and hike to Camp 1 at 3010 m on Sabers Pass, a 4-hour trek.

Day 3 (July 28). Camp 1 - Betlemi Hut

Camp 1 to Betlemi Hut (3,675 m). Cross the glacier, where no plant can grow, and camp near the ex-Soviet weather station.

Day 4 (July 29). Acclimatization day

Acclimatization Day. Enjoy the day at Gergeti Glacier, visiting chapels and climbing above the snowline. Refill your energy supplies to prepare for the summit the following day.

Day 5 (July 30). Kazbek summit day

Summit Day. An early wake-up call will kick off the ascent to Kazbek (5,047 m). The climb involves a 1,400 m ascent with a guide. At the summit, enjoy stunning views of the Caucasus and possibly see peaks over 5,000 m, like Elbrus.

Day 6 (July 31). Spare day / Slower acclimatization

Spare day for bad weather or slower acclimatization. If successful, descend back to the village.

Day 7 (Aug 01). Descend to Kazbegi

Descend to Kazbegi. Return from the glaciers to the colorful village. After a warm shower, indulge in Georgian cuisine and relax for the night.

Day 8 (Aug 02). Departure

Depart. Bid farewell to your team and head to the airport with unforgettable memories.
